What Is Shell Mold Casting?
Shell mold casting, also known as shell molding, is a casting method in which the mold is made from heat-hardened, resin-coated sand. In this method, a special sand mixture is applied onto metal patterns to obtain a thin but durable mold surface. As a result, parts with high surface quality and tight dimensional tolerances are produced in a way that suits serial production.
Advantages;
- High dimensional accuracy
- Thin-walled and complex parts can be produced
- Suitable for high-volume production
- Shorter molding time
Application areas
- Automotive: Valve cover, axle parts, clutch housing
- Defense Industry: Trigger mechanisms, optical component parts
- Machinery Manufacturing: Pinion gears, shaft bearings, engine parts
- Industrial Equipment: Pump housings, fasteners
